An environmental nuclear bomb looms in Utah. Two intrepid scientists and a political insider race the clock to save their home from an unprecedented catastrophe. Local Utah filmmaker Abby Ellis intertwines the inextricable fates of the Great Salt Lake, a failing saline body of water, and the millions of people who live, work, and travel around it in away that is both terrifying and motivating, wrought with divinity and doom.​  THE LAKE looks at the interdependency of science and faith, and the power of individuals and communities to avert disaster by working together. It received a Sundance Institute Sandbox Fund grant during its production phase when its working title was The Terminal.
