KIDS CAN SPIT

CONSULTING EDITOR

KIDS CAN SPIT follows five student teams as they tackle their personal dramas through lyrics written for a science-themed hip hop competition. Collectively, the teens’ lyrics offer a direct window into their curiosities, fears & desires as they come of age in the Black Lives Matter landscape. After 8 weeks of practice, the teens’ personal story arcs ramp up tensions leading to semi-finals and the final competition. Ultimately, only one team will be crowned ‘Science Genius’. It’s not about who wins or loses, but how hip hop and science forge a new form of self-expression that helps prepare them for what’s ahead.

Kids Can Spit participated in the (Egg)celerator Lab and received a post-production grant from NYSCA.
